Link2Support tripling employee count of Davao call center

(Business World (Philippines) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Davao City - Contact center company Link2Support, Inc. is planning to triple its number of employees here by the end of the year to about 1,500 from 512, a company official said.

Gary Dumael, Link2Support operations manager for Davao, said the company was in a recruitment binge.

He admitted, however, that it was difficult to find call center agents who can handle technical accounts.

"There are many computer science or computer engineering graduates who do not know how to talk," he said.

He noted that only 12% of the applicants who are technology-savvy can speak well. Of those who can speak well, only 5% are familiar with computers.

Edwin Maranon, chairman of the computer studies division of Ateneo de Davao University, confirmed that many students of computer-related courses have low English proficiency.

Mr. Dumael also said that Link2Support also has to contend with competition.

He added that the company's expansion plan also depended on how fast the Damosa Land, Inc., the host for its operations in the city, can build its P150-million information and communications technology project."
