Firetide wireless mesh installed by KT Corp in Korean holiday area

(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
KT Corporation, a Korean service provider, has used Firetide equipment
to deploy a metropolitan wireless mesh network in a popular Korean
holiday destination, bringing free Internet access and enabling a
city-wide sensor network in Gangneung City and the nearby Gyeongpo
Beach area.

Gangneung is the centre of Korea's Yeongdong region and has a
population of 225,000 with an area of some 400 sq miles. The tourist
destination has easy access to both the Sea of Japan and Gangeung's
lake and there are several historical buildings in the area.

KT's Gangneung U-Blue City (Ubiquitous Blue City) project comprises a
IPv6-based Ubiquitous Sensor Network powered by 21 Firetide HotPort

mesh nodes and 8 Firetide HotPoint access points to power free internet
access for both the local population and for tourists. The network also
provides the local authorities with access to video cameras and weather
sensors and can carry advanced warnings of local weather information
and disaster preparation bulletins.
