China officially issues three 3G licenses - Xinhua

BEIJING, Jan 07, 2009 (XFN-ASIA via COMTEX) --
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology
officially issued three third-generation mobile licenses to China Mobile, China
Telecom and China Unicom this afternoon, the official Xinhua news agency
reported.
According to earlier report, China Mobile was to obtain a 3G license for
China's home-grown TD-SCDMA technology.
China Unicom and China Telecom will receive licenses to run 3G systems based on


the international platforms WCDMA and CDMA2000, respectively.
On Dec 31, China's cabinet gave its approval for the issue of 3G licenses using
TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and CDMA2000 technologies.
