'Dutch mobile operators round prices to the highest minute'

(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dutch mobile operators are making calling more expensive by charging by the highest minute instead of the second and having connection fees, comparison site Bellen.com said. The site said that 100 call minutes are charged an average 130 minutes. KPN and units Hi, Telfort, and Debitel, as well as Vodafone, Wireless Circle, Trendcall and Chippie have switched to the billing system while Vodafone and T-Mobile have recently started charging again for connection. In the past years, these costs had not been included. Telecompaper earlier noted that using KPN for mobile calling, internet and fixed telephony had become more expensive in the last months, while KPN units brought prices up in the last few months, Nieuwsbrief Breedband reported in April. In a reaction to Telecompaper's conclusions, KPN pointed to consolidation on the broadband and mobile market weakening competition. Small price hikes are a simple way to boost results.
