10 Companies Brewing OMS-powered TD-SCDMA Phones


SHENZHEN, Jul 20, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- 10 mobile phone makers are looking to develop TD-SCDMA mobile phones running the Android-based open mobile system (OMS) initiated by China Mobile, one of the Big Three integrated telecom operators in the country.



The ten mobile phone makers include Lenovo Group, Dell Inc, Dopod Communication Corporation, Samsung, Motorola, LG, Coolpad, ZTE Corporation (SZSE: 000063 and SEHK: 0763), Hisense Group, as well as TCL, disclosed people in the know.

ZTE is scheduled to roll out OMS-powered TD-SCDMA mobile phones in the fourth quarter of 2009, said Luo Zhongsheng, general manager for ZTE TD-SCDMA product line, on July 19.


Notably, some GSM mobile phones running the OMS platform are already available in the market. Dopod A6188, the first OMS-based mobile phone, was put for sale in the market last week. Lenovo O1, a device preinstalled with WAPI and CMMB functions, is likely to come into the market in the near future.
