iPhone Sales Volume in China Forecasted to Reach 3mn in 2010

BEIJING, Sep 01, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- The sales volume of iPhone mobile phones in the populous Chinese market is expected to reach 3 million in 2010, forecasted analysts at investment firm Piper Jaffray & Co.

Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) has sold more than 26 million iPhones in over 80 markets. Notably, it will foray into the potential Chinese market under a newly-clinched agreement with China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (SEHK: 0762 and NYSE: CHU).

Thanks to the announcement of the agreement on August 28, 2009, shares of Apple rose to a new high and shares of China Unicom climbed 0.4% to HKD 10.72.

China Unicom will offer subsidies for iPhone users but will not share revenues with Apple, Chang Xiaobing, board chairman of the telecom carrier said earlier.

Telecom operators in China now are pushing their 3G services. Smart phone shipments in the Chinese market arrived at 11 million last year and will triple in 2013.
