China Appreciated to Cancel Injunction on Wi-Fi Mobile Phone

BEIJING, Apr 06, 2010 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- The Wi-Fi Alliance lately held a meeting in Shanghai, welcoming the Chinese government's decision to allow mobile phones to have Wi-Fi function.

China has been banning the compatibility of Wi-Fi technology by mobile phones for a long time. As a result, Chinese users are unable to enjoy the pleasure of wireless broadband.

In mid 2009, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) permitted the sales of Wi-Fi-based mobile phones. Handset makers like Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and Samsung all launched like products in China.

The Wi-Fi Alliance CEO Edgar Figueroa discloses that China's sales of Wi-Fi-based mobile phones reached 6.6 million last year, indicating the popularity of the products in the country.

Although the Chinese government nodded the sales of Wi-Fi-based mobile phones, they are required to be available for China's proprietary WLAN safety standard WAPI. Edgar Figueroa points out that the Wi-Fi Alliance will understand and abide by the regulations worked out by the Chinese party in the technology field.
