China,Sri Lanka : SRI LANKA to launch telecom satellite with the help of CHINA [TendersInfo (India)]


(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The government of Sri Lanka has announced signing a partnership deal with a private firm that has entered into a contract with China to construct and launch a telecommunications satellite in 2015 or 2016.



SupremeSAT (Pvt) Ltd. - a newly established Sri Lankan firm, has inked a deal with the Sri Lanka Board of Investment.

According to the government the deal is valued at $20 million and subsequently as the project develops further it will rise to $320 million.


Concluding the terms of construction, the company has launched contract with China Great Wall Industry Corp. of Beijing, which coordinates Chinese commercial satellite and launch services export sales.

The satellite, a Chinese DFH-4 model, will be operated by SupremeSAT at Sri Lanka s 50 degrees east slot in geostationary orbit.

The government stated in a statement, the satellite will deliver "broadband and networking services, broadcast solutions, backhaul or range-extension facilities for telecom operators, and services such as e-government and e-learning.
