AP-AM Prep-Cyber Corner

(Canadian Press Broadcast Wire (Canada) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MORNINGPREP-MORNINGPREP-MORNINGPREP-MORNINGPREP ! CYBER CORNER ! IN THE NEWS: JUDGE DENIES APPLE'S REQUEST TO BAN SAMSUNG SMARTPHONES SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ In this case, anyway, the victors DON'T go the spoils. A federal judge in San Francisco has denied a legal request by Apple stemming from its court victory over rival smartphone maker Samsung. Apple had demanded that the court ban U.S. sales of Samsung phone models that a jury ruled back in August had illegally used Apple technology. But in a ruling issued last night, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh turned down the request. After the trial, Apple was awarded $1.05 billion in damages when a jury found Samsung had copied critical features of the iPhone and iPad. Apple has tried to up the ante since then, saying the jury award was a ``slap in the wrist.'' Samsung has claimed that Apple is trying to defeat Samsung in the courts, rather than competing with it head-on in the marketplace.

Sound: 4:32 aes IN THE NEWS: AGENCY LINKS CANCER TO SAMSUNG CHIP PLANTS SEOUL, South Korea (AP) _ A South Korean government agency has ruled that working at a Samsung Electronics factory caused the breast cancer of a worker who died earlier this year. The ruling this past Friday marks only the second time that the arm of the Korean labour ministry has recognized a link between cancer and Samsung's chip plants. The agency says there is a ``considerable causal relationship'' between the woman's cancer and her five years of work at a semiconductor plant near Seoul (SOHL). The ruling didn't become public until after the agency announced compensation for the woman's family. Samsung says it won't appeal. It is the world's largest maker of computer memory chips.

The top six spots in jersey sales belong to quarterbacks, with Peyton Manning of the Broncos at No. 2, followed by Aaron Rodgers of the Packers, Eli Manning of the Giants, Tom Brady of the Patriots and Andrew Luck of the Colts.
