Telstra joins bidding for wireless spectrum

Companies wanting to take part in the Australian Government's auction of wireless spectrum had until 23 January 2013 to register. Only Telstra, Singtel Optus and Vodafone are believed to have registered for the auction, which is due to take place on 16 April. Vodafone is only expected to bid for spectrum in the 2.5GHz band. The Government is also auctioning spectrum in the 700MHz band, which is much more highly sought after. The spectrum auction could raise $A3 billion overall.
