*** VIA Technologies Assigned Patent ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 5 -- VIA Technologies, New Taipei City, Taiwan, has been assigned a patent (8,364,906) developed by four co-inventors for "avoiding memory access latency by returning hit-modified when holding non-modified data." The co-inventors are Rodney E. Hooker, Austin, Texas, Colin Eddy, Austin, Texas, Darius D. Gaskins, Austin, Texas, and Albert J. Loper Jr., Austin, Texas.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A microprocessor is configured to communicate with other agents on a system bus and includes a cache memory and a bus interface unit coupled to the cache memory and to the system bus. The bus interface unit receives from another agent coupled to the system bus a transaction to read data from a memory address, determines whether the cache memory is holding the data at the memory address in an exclusive state (or a shared state in certain configurations), and asserts a hit-modified signal on the system bus and provides the data on the system bus to the other agent when the cache memory is holding the data at the memory address in an exclusive state. Thus, the delay of an access to the system memory by the other agent is avoided." The patent application was filed on Sept. 13, 2010 (12/880,958). *** Ohio, Texas Inventors Develop Patent for System and Method of Introducing an Additive with a Unique Catalyst to a Coking Process ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 5 -- Roger G. Etter, Delaware, Ohio, and Augusto Quinones, Houston, have developed a patent (8,361,310) for a "system and method of introducing an additive with a unique catalyst to a coking process." The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "Gas oil components, coking process recycle, and heavier hydrocarbons are cracked or coked in the coking vessel by injecting an additive into the vapors of traditional coking processes in the coking vessel. The additive contains catalyst(s), seeding agent(s), excess reactant(s), quenching agent(s), carrier(s), or any combination thereof to modify reaction kinetics to preferentially crack or coke these components. Modifications of the catalysts in the additive improve performance for certain desired outcomes. One exemplary embodiment of the present invention uses the olefin production capabilities from newly developed catalysts to increase the production of light olefins (e.g. ethylene, propylenes, butylenes, pentenes) for alkylation process unit feed, the production of oxygenates, and petrochemical feedstocks, such as plastics manufacture. Another exemplary embodiment of the present invention is the use of the olefin production from newly developed catalysts to improve the coker naphtha quality. A third exemplary embodiment of the present invention uses the cracking characteristics of newly developed catalysts to optimize the production of light gas oils, naphtha, and gases from the coking process." *** VIA Technologies Assigned Patent for Microprocessor with Repeat Prefetch Indirect Instruction ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 5 -- VIA Technologies, New Taipei, Taiwan, has been assigned a patent (8,364,902) developed by Rodney E. Hooker, Austin, Texas, and John Michael Greer, Austin, Texas, for a "microprocessor with repeat prefetch indirect instruction."
