Jin-Magic and Ubiquisys Join Forces to Improve Small Cell Performance

Feb 15, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Tokyo and Swindon, UK -- Jin-Magic, developer of software to stabilise and optimize internet traffic, and Ubiquisys, the developer of multi-mode small cells, today announced that the two companies are working together to improve the performance and quality of experience of small cells. By dynamically optimizing TCP traffic from within heavily-loaded small cells, capacity to service simultaneous TCP sessions can be increased multiple times to improve quality of experience in a fair and democratic way.

Ubiquisys metrocells provide coverage and capacity in capacity hotspots over 3G, LTE and WiFi interfaces. With the inexorable growth in mobile data usage, any one of these air interfaces, as well as the backhaul IP connection, can regularly run at close to their full capacity. Without intelligent data flow management, this inevitably leads to a TCP tug-of-war, with inefficient sharing of resources between users and technologies, additional network signalling traffic and an erratic user experience.

"Small cells combine multiple technologies and use commodity backhaul to deliver high quality capacity at minimum cost - Jin-Magic's innovative software means they continue to deliver even at very high utilisation," said Pete Keevill, VP Engineering and co-founder, Ubiquisys. "Our smart cell provides the computing power to run robust applications like Jin-Magic where they are most useful and effective, at the edge of the network." "Jin-Magic software is extremely efficient and scalable - light enough to run on a smartphone, but powerful enough to handle a million simultaneous TCP sessions when run in the network," said Koji Morihiro, President and CEO Jin-Magic. "The Ubiquisys smart cell provides a compelling new platform for Jin-Magic to do its work where it matters most - close to mobile users." The solution consists of Jin-Magic optimization software running on a Ubiquisys smart cell - an intelligent small cell hotspot with an integrated computing platform based on Intel(r) architecture. By monitoring all of the TCP/IP traffic as it passes through the cell, Jin-Magic software balances and stabilizes individual TCP sessions without making any changes to packets, data, or protocol. The patented software is capable of maximizing bandwidth utilization of the end-to-end network and enables fair sharing of the available bandwidth among the users. This gives an improvement across both the backhaul and each of the licensed or unlicensed air interfaces, greatly adding to the usable cell capacity and delivering a robustly consistent quality of experience for all users. Ubiquisys smart cell partners can also take advantage of the software to implement customized QOS policies. It can also be used to continuously monitor and analyse the network condition at the TCP session level.

The application is distributed and remotely provisioned on smart cells through the Intel AppUp(r) SMB Service, which is built on the Intel Hybrid Cloud software platform, that enables service providers to deliver the benefits of cloud computing on distributed networked devices.

About Ubiquisys Ubiquisys is a leader in intelligent multi-mode LTE-HSPA-WiFi small cells, with products deployed by operators around the world.

The Ubiquisys difference is intelligence: high-availability small cells that continuously adapt to their surroundings and dynamically interact with their neighbours. Operators benefit from macro-level KPIs, low operating costs and efficient use of spectrum assets, whilst mobile users experience dependable voice and high speed data services. The Ubiquisys small cell range includes public-access hotspots, self-organising networks for enterprise, and modular residential small cells designed for home device integration.

Ubiquisys has pioneered the smart cell: part small cell hotspot, part powerful computing platform. This new class of small cell adds cloud and core networking capabilities at the edge of the network, bringing new services closer to mobile users. www.ubiquisys.com About Jin-Magic In TCP, the predominant internet transport protocol standard, simultaneous TCP streams aggressively compete for bandwidth. This can deteriorate efficient utilization of the bandwidth, total throughput and TCP stream stability, particularly in mobile networks. Jin-Magic Inc. has developed an innovative, fundamental and standards-based software technology to stabilize internet traffic at TCP level and maximize service capacity of existing or future infrastructure. From any one point in TCP path, it can precisely control bandwidth without bursts and re-transmits. Our mission is to deliver this solution through industry leading partners to improve the quality of internet experience for all users. www.jin-magic.com Media Contacts Ubiquisys Limited Ed Howson [email protected] +44 7740173051 Jin-Magic Inc.
