GloBul and Germanos to merge ahead of Telenor rebranding [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Cosmo Bulgaria (GloBul), the country's second largest cellco in terms of subscribers, has announced that it has merged its operations with integrated telecom retailer Germanos, ahead of its forthcoming rebranding in line with parent company Telenor. The rebranding exercise is set to take place following the completion of an infrastructure upgrade later this year. The company has disclosed that the merger will not affect Germanos' existing operations in Bulgaria, and none of the company's 126 retail stores, spread across 73 cities and towns, will be closed. All shops will continue to operate under the Germanos brand until the adoption of the Telenor moniker.

As previously reported by TeleGeography's CommsUpdate, in October 2013 Stein-Erik Vellan, CEO of GloBul, which was acquired by Telenor for EUR717 million (USD951.8 million) in July 2013, commented: 'If you look at the 14 countries in which we operate, in all except one – Malaysia, where the ownership is not 100% ours, the brand of the operator is Telenor. So – yes, the new name of the operator in Bulgaria will be also Telenor.' (c) 2014 PriMetrica, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (Syndigate.info).
