Philippines : SMART, SUN announce service in METRO MANILA back to normal [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A day after Typhoon Glenda hit country's capital, the Philippine's 2 major wireless carriers have announced that service in Metro Manila is back to "normal." Smart Communications Inc and Sun Cellular jointly said they have completely restored mobile network service coverage in Metro Manilaas of the morning of July 17, 2014 .

However, "network optimization activities" are under way and due to this, subscribers may experience some level of decline in voice and mobile Internet service in certain parts of Metro Manila.

Service in Central and Northern Luzon for both the telcos were largely untouched by the typhoon's passage.

However, network coverage in Southern Luzon and the Bicol Region has been rehabilitated to 80 percent.

The balance 20 percent with service disruption is due to extended commercial power failures and transmission breaks due to fiber cuts and misaligned microwave radios.

The fixed line service of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co (PLDT), the holding company of both Smart and Sun Cellular, is also being rehabilitated with the conclusion of repairs of damaged facilities and the return of commercial energy.

Ramon R. Isberto, PLDT Group spokesperson and public affairs head, stated : 'Our engineers have been working round the clock to ensure continuity of services. Because of our continuing efforts to improve network resiliency, we were able to quickly provide mobile phone umbrella coverage to many of the affected areas to compensate for the temporary loss of some of our cell sites. We have also quickly restored links to hard-hit provinces like Sorsogon and Catanduanes. To support our restoration efforts in these areas, we deployed Smart Satellite Services units beforehand to speed up communications among our teams." (c) 2014 Euclid Infotech Pvt. Ltd.
