'Telecom partnership, money exchange counters would boost India-Pak ties' [India] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AMRITSAR: Confidence building measures like partnership in telecom services and opening of official money exchange counters could help improve India-Pakistan relations, claimed Aaghaz-e-Dosti, a joint organization of India-based Mission Bharatiyam and Pakistan-based The Catalyst. These suggestions have also been submitted by the organisation to Pakistan high commission and Union ministry of external affairs. Talking to TOI on Tuesday, founder of Mission Bharatiyam, Ravi Nitesh, said that by allowing and encouraging partnership of telecom companies on both sides, telecommunication can work without restrictions while traveling in each other's country. "At present, we lack such partnership. Because of this, while phones of other countries work in India and Pakistan on international roaming, it is not allowed for the neighbouring countries," he said. He said they also suggested setting up of official money exchange counters at immigration centres and in major cities of India and Pakistan. Starting of official tour programmes will encourage travel and tourism in each country. "Increasing tourism is vital for better understanding and cultural exchange," he said. Aaghaz-e-Dosti has also suggested partnership of banks on both sides so that online money transfer could be done. Their other suggestions included opening of government souvenir shops in capital cities of India and Pakistan and allowing and encouraging television channels to make partnerships to broadcast their services in each other's country.
