Haier Builds Mobile Phone Plant in Indonesia

(Sinocast Computers & Electronics Beat (China) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) QINGDAO, August 27, SinoCast -- Chinese consumer electronic maker Haier may build a smart phone plant in Indonesia by the end of 2014, designed with output of 200,000 per month, which will at least cost USD 1 million, being the first mobile phone plant in Southeast Asia and second globally following South America for the company.

Haier decided to build a mobile phone plant in Indonesia, not only because of great potential market, but also because of cooperation with local mobile carrier PT Smartfren Telecom.

After acquiring SANYO from Japan for USD 130 million, Haier forayed into Indonesia in July 2012, taking over local service of the former.
