Quantium taps e-shopping [Bangkok Post, Thailand :: ](Bangkok Post (Thailand) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 08--Quantium Solutions (Thailand), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Post, plans to scale up its e-commerce platform and logistics operations in major local provinces to tap an unprecedented growth of online shopping there. Quantium provides end-to-end logistics service for online merchants, from developing websites to order management systems, bill payment engines, fraud detection, warehouses, delivery and after-sales services. The company is exploring a new innovative delivery business model to improve services and reduce operating costs, said Kraisar Gilitwala, country general manager of Quantium Solutions (Thailand). Pickup points or parcel lockers and cash-on-delivery services might be the main alternatives to provide delivery convenience for online shoppers. Global and local logistics service providers have seen a massive surge in demand thanks to the online shopping boom upcountry, especially in large provinces. Greater high-speed wireless broadband network coverage and the proliferation of smartphones are the key factors driving the growth, he said. In May Chinese internet giant Alibaba Group Holding agreed to acquire a 10.35% stake in Singapore Post, the city state's national postal service provider, for nearly S$313 million (8 billion baht). This investment is meant to tap into other e-commerce opportunities in Southeast Asia. E-commerce business accounted for 26% of Singapore Post's consolidated revenues in the first quarter. Mr Kraisar said the proceeds from the acquisition would be used to upgrade Singapore Post Group's logistics technologies and improve staff skills.
