Quantium taps e-shopping [Bangkok Post, Thailand :: ]

(Bangkok Post (Thailand) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 08--Quantium Solutions (Thailand), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Post, plans to scale up its e-commerce platform and logistics operations in major local provinces to tap an unprecedented growth of online shopping there.

Quantium provides end-to-end logistics service for online merchants, from developing websites to order management systems, bill payment engines, fraud detection, warehouses, delivery and after-sales services.

The company is exploring a new innovative delivery business model to improve services and reduce operating costs, said Kraisar Gilitwala, country general manager of Quantium Solutions (Thailand). Pickup points or parcel lockers and cash-on-delivery services might be the main alternatives to provide delivery convenience for online shoppers.

Global and local logistics service providers have seen a massive surge in demand thanks to the online shopping boom upcountry, especially in large provinces.

Greater high-speed wireless broadband network coverage and the proliferation of smartphones are the key factors driving the growth, he said.

In May Chinese internet giant Alibaba Group Holding agreed to acquire a 10.35% stake in Singapore Post, the city state's national postal service provider, for nearly S$313 million (8 billion baht).

This investment is meant to tap into other e-commerce opportunities in Southeast Asia. E-commerce business accounted for 26% of Singapore Post's consolidated revenues in the first quarter.

Mr Kraisar said the proceeds from the acquisition would be used to upgrade Singapore Post Group's logistics technologies and improve staff skills.

"Quantium is determined to become a leading logistics provider for e-commerce in the region, helped by Singapore Post's international distribution networks," he said.
