Landline, mobile connectivity remains affected in IOK - Press Release issued by Kashmir Media Service

(Pakistan Official News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) September 13, 2014 (PPI-OT) Following is the text of press release issued by Kashmir Media Service Quote In occupied Kashmir, over a week on, landline and mobile phone connectivity is still affected in the flood-hit Kashmir Valley particularly Srinagar where people are unable to know about the well-being of one other amid devastation and administrative breakdown.

The internet services are equally affected. Except for landlines connections operating from the Barzullla exchange and some mobile phone towers in southern area of Srinagar where water levels receded, the telecommunication network is yet to be restored.

From the government-run BSNL to private operators like Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance, services of all the telecom operators are badly affected. The communication has worsened so much that even old City is unable to connect with the civil lines while the road connectivity is already deluged.

"For the past over a week I am unable to know the well being of my brother-in-law whose house near Gogji Bagh was on verge of collapse when he last spoke to me on phone," said Sameer Ahmed of Nishat. The lack of communication has even left people unable to know about the welfare of those believed to have been rescued.

Humaira Farhan of Raj Bagh who was rescued after four days said that she had no information about the well being of her brother, Syed Latief, whose house was equally devastated in floods in the vicinity. "Some unconfirmed reports said he has been rescued and taken to Nishat. But there's no communication with him and his family," she told media men.
