Vodafone Romania seeks EUR 15mn compensations from telecom regulator [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]

(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Vodafone Romania, the second largest telecom operator in Romania, has submitted a preliminary complaint to the country's telecom regulator ANCOM, claiming it cannot use for technical reasons some radio frequency bands for which it paid fees in an auction back in 2012, Ziarul Financiar daily reported, quoting unofficial sources.

Vodafone has not officially confirmed the complaint and ANCOM commented that it would be anyway too late to challenge an auction that took place in 2012.

Vodafone Romania plans to ask for EUR 15mn in compensations, because of interference with operators in neighbouring Ukraine in 20 of Romania's 40 counties for the said frequencies. In order to supply services to its customers in the 20 counties, Vodafone had to take under lease frequencies from competing companies RCS&RDS and Telekom.

Vodafone Romania has submitted along with the preliminary complaint a report drafted by the technical team that monitored the radio frequencies for a period of one month and concluded that the activity of 1,000 antennas in 20 counties is affected by the interference with operators in Ukraine.
