47% of DiGi subscribers using smartphones, 6 million using mobile internet [Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia)]


(Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Local service provider DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd reports that smartphone penetration on its prepaid and postpaid telco network has reached 47% in the third quarter (Q3) of 2014. This is up from 37% of the same 3 month period last year.

DiGi Chief Executive Officer Lars Norling claimed that DiGi had expanded its 3G network coverage to 84% of populated areas during this time frame, and strengthened its 4G LTE sites coverage, providing more consistent internet reliability around Malaysia that saw its mobile data traffic grow by 90% from Q3 2013.
