Paola Police Department secures grant funding for Meggitt Training Systems' FATS L7

The Paola, Kansas Police Department is one step closer to making its Justice Center a regional training facility with the purchase of Meggitt Training Systems' FATS® L7 compact virtual firearms training simulator. Paola Chief Dave Smail and his department recently secured a $71,500 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant with the assistance of Meggitt and their partner PoliceGrantsHelp.com.

"Training for situations such as active shooters, building searches, traffic stops and marksmanship instruction is extremely important," said Chief Smail. "The new Meggitt virtual simulation system allows our officers and other departments throughout the county to train for potentially lethal scenarios within a non-lethal training environment. This allows for better trained officers to protect the residents of Paola."

Meggitt Training Systems will deliver the FATS® L7 hardware, software, courseware, BlueFire® wireless weapons and flashlight option to the Paola Police Department by mid-February 2015.

"We are proud to partner with PoliceGrantsHelp.com to provide grant assistance, allowing agencies like the PaolaPolice Department to secure advanced training equipment," said Eric Perez, director of virtual sales, Meggitt Training Systems. "Grant assistance is a significant resource for agencies with constricted budgets to secure funding for improved departmental training."

Paola Deputy Chief Donald Poore added that the process from initial contact to awarding of the grant took about four months. The timing of the grant development, submission and award varies based on the grant and application process.

According to Mr. Perez, agencies can visit the Meggitt Training Systems' website and register for grant assistance. Members of the PoliceGrantsHelp.com team then work directly with the agency to identify grant options and provide assistance throughout the grant submission process at no cost to the agency. Products like Meggitt's FATS® L7 virtual simulation system, BlueFire® wireless weapons, the XWT GEN3 wireless target retrieval system, and others can be purchased using grant funding.
