A leading manufacturer and marketer of application-specific silicon photonics products, Kotura, Inc recently opened a new office in Shenzhen, China. Kotura's new office is intended to provide sales and marketing, manufacturing and R&D support to the Chinese customers in the country’s telecom sector that have already installed Kotura’s produts.

“China is the world's largest telecom market by population and is on its way to becoming the world's largest by revenue as well. Shenzhen in particular is home to some of the world's leading telecommunication equipment manufacturers and as such has developed a very strong optical communications infrastructure. Yicheng, with his extensive background in the optical components industry, will be invaluable as we expand our presence in the region,” president and CEO at Kotura, Jean-Louis Malinge, noted in a statement.

In a press release, Kotura said that the China operations will be led by VP Yicheng Lu.

As vice president, Lu will spearhead the company’s activities on Chinese soil and help strengthen the company’s foothold for Kotura in this important region. In his new role, Lu is expected to shape the company’s business development strategies in a way that they help in increasing the company’s long term opportunities in China.

In addition, Lu joins Kotura's executive team in setting the company's strategic direction and is chartered with the expansion of Kotura's customer relationships.

This local presence, led by Lu, enables Kotura to build strategic relationships for manufacturing, product packaging and other key resources required to support new product development.

Lu brings more than 17 years experience in optical components and fiber optic sensors. Prior to joining Kotura, Lu was sales director and country manager of Great China at JDSU. Before that Lu was a sales director at Bookham (News - Alert), in which he achieved a compounded annual revenue growth rate of more than 45 percent.

“Kotura has an excellent reputation in the field of silicon photonics and is widely considered to be one of the industry's pioneers. I am pleased to join the Kotura team, as the company seeks to build strategic relationships in the China market and offer continuous support to their Chinese base of installed telecommunications customers,” Lu said in a statement.

In November last year, the company introduced an ultrafast, submilliwatt, broadband 2 x 2 optical switch. With switching speeds of 6 ns and power consumption of only 0.6 milliwatts, the 60 nm bandwidth means the device could more than cover the entire C-band range, the company claimed.
