Barrett Technology, a provider of advanced robotic manipulators, and Leeman China, a supplier of mobile platforms in China, have agreed to form a strategic partnership covering all of China and Hong Kong, according to a press release at robotics.org.
Leeman China sells spectrometers, robotic systems, and reactors to the metals, pharmaceuticals, environmental management, oil, and gas markets, according to the press release. Leeman has placed nearly 250 mobile robotic platforms throughout China, the press release notes. Leeman’s clients include university research laboratories, some of China’s largest corporations and government agencies. The company, which is led by Linyu Huang, president, has over 80 employees, including highly-trained engineers, according to the company.
Advanced robotic manipulators perform complex tasks all by themselves with humans providing only minimal direction, according to a story by Erico Guizzo. He notes these tasks can include everything from disarming bombs and finding guns in gym bags to civilian uses that have not yet even been thought of.
“The unique strategic alignment between Barrett and Leeman will ensure that customers interested in mobile-manipulation applications will now be able to purchase fully integrated systems from one source,” Huang said in the press release. “Furthermore we can facilitate upgrades for those existing Leeman customers who already own mobile platforms but now need manipulation capabilities.”
“I have seen Barrett’s equipment in action, and the performance of Barrett’s products is superior to any robotic manipulators available today,” Wei Wang, product manager of Leeman’s robotics division, was quoted as saying in the press release. “That’s why I am delighted to support Barrett’s products.”“This partnership with Leeman China creates an exceptional opportunity for Barrett to provide solutions in the China market, and we are confident that their organization will help us discover exciting new uses and applications for intelligent robotics in their fast-changing technology landscape, “ said Bill Townsend, CEO of Barrett Technology, in the press release.
