India residents reportedly will see active infrastructure sharing through the utilization of virtual Base Transceiver Station platform from Vanu, Inc., a company that provides infrastructure solutions for cellular operators.

 

According to the company, MultiRAN was built to support multiple virtual base stations running on a single BTS hardware platform. With this new facility expense of antennae, BTS electronics, and backhaul can all be shared.

 

A virtual base station helps operators to run separate networks and upgrade their offerings and also increase capacity on an independent basis. Operator’s vBTS is isolated from the others’, providing security and independence for each virtualized RAN. Operators can now cut on cellular sites and equipment cost and as well resume independent control, performance monitoring and competitive differentiation.

 

Vanu (News - Alert) Bose, President and CEO of Vanu, Inc. said that the new MultiRAN Virtual Base Stations was developed to address the uniquely Indian challenge of extremely low ARPU coupled with explosive growth.

 

“Infrastructure sharing makes rural expansion economically feasible, and virtualization facilitates competitive differentiation at a level existing sharing solutions cannot support,” Bose said.

 

Company’s other innovative RAN solution “Anywave” is FCC (News - Alert)-certified which uses single reusable hardware platform to support multiple wireless services and standards simultaneously. It utilizes modular, scalable component architecture to support a broad range of RAN configurations. RF and processor modules in the base station allow operators to configure a system tailored to their current and future spectrum and capacity requirements.

 

Founded in 1998, Vanu is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with additional offices in India. Company recently introduced Professional Services Group to assist rural carriers in designing their network build out with services that can map coverage areas and predict roaming traffic.

 

This new business division is expected to work directly with customers in order to determine the optimal use of their spectrum, create new revenue opportunities and deliver a greater return on investment.
