Altobridge, a provider of GSM solutions for remote communities, asserted that Indonesian mobile operator Indosat (News - Alert) will be using its solutions to bring mobile connectivity to remote communities across Indonesia.

Deployment of the Altobridge lite-sites is already underway amongst previously unconnected communities in West Sulawesi. It is supposed to provide voice, SMS and mobile data connectivity to Indonesian communities as well as enterprises.

Officials with Indosat explained that bringing mobile connectivity to thousands of unconnected communities in Indonesia is part of their vision to provide products and services, which enhance the quality of life of the communities they operate in. The Altobridge (News - Alert) lite-site solution was chosen because it allows the mobile operator to optimize capital budget and operationally the solution can minimize backhaul costs. It is also a low cost, efficient solar powered product making it even more suitable for remote communities.

According to Altobridge, the Altobridge lite-site is a satellite backhauled, solar powered GSM solution for remote communities which enables mobile network operators to bring mobile connectivity to isolated areas at low cost. Meeting the needs of 100 to 1,500 size subscriber communities – standalone or clustered –the Altobridge lite-site has been specifically designed to optimize satellite bandwidth and minimize power consumption.

Aoife Sexton, president of Remote Community Solutions at Altobridge, stated they specialize in delivering a low capital cost and low operational cost wireless network solution for the world's unconnected communities and enterprises.

Some of the features and benefits of the Altobridge lite-site solution are: only 4kbps bandwidth required per active call; Local Connectivity switches local calls at the BTS, thereby eliminating backhaul requirement for all local calls; Local Connectivity meets ETSI (News - Alert) Lawful Intercept requirements and enhances subscriber call quality by removing double satellite hop; channel quenching / ringtone suppression reduces satellite backhaul requirement by allocating the calling party’s audio path only when the called party answers; AMR on the Air Interface doubles traffic capacity per TRX, and Data-at-the-Edge provides 3G user experience via GPRS and EDGE technology.

Altobridge was ranked No. 20 in the 2010 Deloitte (News - Alert) Technology Fast 50, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in Ireland recently. Rankings are based on average percentage revenue growth over five years.
