ARRIS C4 CMTS Four Channel Bonding Reaches to SK Broadband in Korea

ARRIS, a communications technology company specializing in the design and engineering of broadband networks, announced that Korean integrated telecommunications company SK Broadband has reportedly deployed the ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 C4 solution, bonding four Upstream Channels to deliver data speeds in excess of 100 Mbps to its HFC customers.

According to ARRIS officials, this is the first regional high-speed data deployment where four Upstream Channels are bonded. SK Broadband officials said the speed and availability are highly attractive attributes when competing for market share in an advanced telecommunications market such as Korea.

“SK Broadband is very pleased to be able to offer our HFC customers ultra high-speed data service using the ARRIS C4 CMTS and its Upstream Channel bonding capabilities,” company officials said. “Customers have become very demanding, and SK Broadband is proud to be the first to deploy this innovative technology.”

The DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS solution consists of the C4 CMTS and WBM760 wideband modems, capable of delivering downstream data speeds up to 200 Mbps, along with carrier-grade voice service, according to ARRIS officials.

The technology is based on the DOCSIS 3.0 standard that supports both Upstream and Downstream channel bonding capabilities.

“ARRIS was one of the innovators in the definition of Channel Bonding during the creation of the DOCSIS 3.0 specification,” said Bruce McClelland, president, ARRIS Broadband Communications Systems (News - Alert), in a statement. “Our C4 CMTS solution has been supporting Channel Bonding in the field for some time and now, with expected changes in customer usage, we are very proud to be delivering greater upstream speed for SK Broadband. These technologies will permit SK Broadband and other MSOs to support anticipated bandwidth demands of the future.”

In another such development, ARRIS also deployed DOCSIS 3.0 C4 CMTS' broadband access at 4 MSOs across the Czech Republic, TMCnet reported. The companies which are deploying the solution include Elsat s.r.o., BKS Capital Partners, Self Servis and Kabelova Televize Koprivnice.
